Should have been on the podium, but we stopped to assist with an accident and were penalised seven seconds. Missed third outright by four seconds! Gutted for the second year in succession!

2007

This was a very successful year for the Skelta team with three podium finishes from the four major tarmac rallies entered.

Gatton Sprints1st in class, 3rd Outright
Winner of Sports Car Championship.

Targa TasmaniaDNF
Disappointment from day one after a nut came loose and allowed a suspension mount bracket to break from the chassis. (This area has since been reinforced.) Following repairs, and in a totally dominant display, we then went on to win the majority of the remaining stages.

Suncoast Rally1st in class, 1st Outright
The first running of a tarmac rally in Queensland saw the Skelta crew dominate this four day event. The team’s first outright victory on a Tarmac Rally.

Leyburn Sprints1st in class, 1st Outright

Targa West1st in class, 2nd Outright
Driven on this occasion by V8 Supercar star Tony Longhurst, who drove very well in both wet and dry conditions to score this podium result.

Mt Buller Sprint1st in class, 1st Outright
Held in shocking weather conditions. The Skelta proved it true versatility by being quickest two-wheel drive car in the wet, then fastest car overall once the surface dried.

Noosa Hillclimb1st in class, 5th Outright
We further lowered the record for road cars in the process.

2006

Mt Buller Sprint (January event) 1st in class, 4th Outright

Gatton Sprints1st in class, 4th Outright
First road registered car on road tyres (driven to the event). Winner of Sports Car Championship.

Targa Tasmania1st in class, 2nd Outright,
until near end of fifth and last day, only to have a rubber boot disintegrate, causing CV joint failure. Offending part was changed in 15 minutes but penalties applied as controls were closed. Heartbreaking!

Leyburn Sprints1st in class, 1st Outright

Targa New Zealand1st in class, 2nd outright
Finished 35 seconds behind former national rally champion.

Mt Buller Sprint (November event) – 1st in class, 4th Outright

Noosa Hillclimb – 1st in class, 6th Outright
First non-openwheeler car to break the 60-second barrier. We drove it there and competed on road legal tyres.

2005

Leyburn Sprints 1st in class, 1st Outright

Targa New Zealand3rd outright,
until rod end failure on day three caused penalties for missing stages. This is a ‘blind’, very demanding tarmac rally held over six days. The car was driven to and from the event.

Mt Buller Sprint1st in class, 7th Outright
The event uses the access road to one of Victoria’s premier ski resorts. It rises from 300ft at the start to 6000ft at the finish. Good tarmac surface but characterised by steep drops, lack of guard rails and huge trees.

Noosa Hillclimb1st in class, 6th Outright
Beat Vern Schuppan in a Porsche 962 Le Mans car. A prestigious event held on the Sunshine Coast that attracts many hillclimb specials (openwheelers).

2004

Leyburn Sprints1st in class, 7th Outright
First ever event for a Skelta. Prototype made to run only at 6.00am on the morning of the event. Huge achievement by crew, who worked all night to prepare car.
